INTRODUCTION TO PARKOUR:

Parkour is movement. Real movement. Holistic movement. Applied movement. Movement, for us, means body and mind working together seamlessly to adapt to terrain and overcome any challenge or handle any scenario. In parkour we avoid deconstructing our movement so that it never becomes isolated, one-dimensional or purposeless. The human body and brain are incredibly capable movers and our training enables you to get out of your own way and unleash that potential fully, effectively and safely.

FITNESS AS A BY-PRODUCT

We believe that ‘fitness’ by itself should never be anyone’s goal. True, lasting physical and mental health comes about as a by-product of a life well-lived and challenges overcome, and that’s the most important ‘fitness’ there is; the fitness to live fully and for the whole of one’s life. We don’t taper for peaks and troughs of performance, we don’t guess at what works and we don’t follow the latest ‘fitness fad’ produced by ever changing pseudoscience. In parkour we use methods tried and tested in real-world movement training, and biomechanics that result from constant empirical analysis of what works.


Utilizing your environment: adapting to terrain, tactile sensitivity, familiarity with obstacles, overcoming spatial fears.





THE PEOPLE BEHIND PARKOUR FITNESS

Parkour Fitness™ was developed and refined over a decade of training by the coaching team at the very heart of Parkour Generations, the world’s first and largest resource of parkour education.

Combining decades of experience in parkour with years of teaching tens of thousands of athletes in dozens of countries around the world, we have captured the key principles and methods of practical movement training and poured that into the Parkour Fitness Specialist programme. While it may seem groundbreaking and innovative, we are in fact simply restoring our movement birthright to an industry that seems to have fallen prey to unhelpful deconstruction and purposeless systems!

FOUNDER DAN EDWARDES

Parkour Fitness founder, Dan, has studied practical movement and physical fitness his entire life, with an elite background in fighting arts before he found parkour in 2002. Dan has taught parkour to thousands of people across every continent since 2005, from Olympic athletes to military Special Forces to the first ever kids classes and everyone in between.

Dan created the only recognised parkour coaching certifications in the world, the ADAPT Qualifications. His programmes have been accredited by YMCA Awards, 1st4Sports, ACE, NASM, FIT and more, as well as being the centrepiece for major international fitness events such as IDEA WORLD and Paleo f(X) in the USA, Fitpro Live, MOVEfit, World Power Show and Leisure Industry Week in the UK, Asian Fitness Convention, IFEX, Barefoot Training Summit and many more.

To be truly functional means to be able to apply one’s physical abilities in a real-world environment, not solely in the sanitized confines of a gym or soft space, and the constant adaptation required to achieve this brings about a natural and true functional fitness.

Parkour Fitness has a task-oriented approach to fitness training, requiring constant adaptation and application by the individual, and is centred around a holistic approach to multi-planar mobility, body sensitivity, functional strength, agility and spatial awareness.
